WHAT TO PACK FOR TULUM

For the first time, I felt like I packed exactly what I needed for my 13 day trip to Tulum. If you have no idea what to pack for Tulum, I have you covered! In this post, I will provide a list of what you will need to pack for a two week trip to Tulum, Mexico. Also, if you would like tips on where to stay, check out my Tulum guide.

Clothing to pack

#1: Comfortable airport clothes. When it comes to flying, my clothing of choice is a loose sweater paired with jeans or leggings. My motto is comfort over fashion. But, that’s my personal preference.

#2: Swimsuits. My friends and I spent most of our time on the beach, exploring cenotes and lounging by the pool. I recommend at least 4 pairs of swimsuits, including a one piece swimsuit. The full body swim suit is a plus, since it pairs well with denim or white shorts for day excursions.

My shoppable picks:

#3: Cover-ups. Pack a simple black or white cover up that can go with every swimsuit you wear! I wore this white H&M cover-up throughout my trip. I loved that the material was lightweight and breathable. Even though I didn’t pack one, a sarong is also nice to have to wrap around your waist after a dip in the sea.

My shoppable picks:

#4: Yoga outfit. If you don’t plan to get in on the yoga scene in Tulum, skip packing this item. I did attend an Iyengar yoga class while staying at HABITAS|Tulum. It was nice to have comfortable attire to practice in.

#5: Shorts and breezy summer tops. So, Denim shorts were my go to. They are easy to pair with casual summer tops or a one piece swimsuit.

#6: Resort style dresses. To take advantage of the warm weather be sure to pack light and breezy resort style dresses. You wont go wrong with two to three maxi dresses or sundress.

Accessory items to pack

1: Earrings, Bracelets and chains. Yes, this is the secret to make any outfit amazing! To take your outfits from boring to stylish, be sure to pack fun statement earnings, chains and bracelets.

My shoppable picks:

#2: Sunhat and sunnies. Tulum is hot AF! A sunhat and sunglasses that complements your wardrobe is an absolute must.

My shoppable picks:

#3: Beach bag or backpack. A durable yet stylish, medium to large sized beach bag or backpack is necessary for day trips.

#4: Flip flops, Converse shoes, and dressy sandals. Depending on the day activities, I alternated between flip flops and converse sneakers. Also, I wore my converse to the Tulum Ruins and Chichén Itzá, and wore my flip flop everywhere else.

Other Essential Items to Pack

#1: Bug spray. The mosquitos in Tulum are no joke. And they prey on you like they’ve never tasted blood before. 2-3 travel size bottles of Off Spray should be enough.

#2: Sunscreen. As a reminder, the sun is HOT and there is few shady spots on the beach! Protect yourself by wearing sunscreen.

#3: Hydrocortisone. Yes, despite the Off Spray, you will get bit by mosquito’s. I find that this cream helps reduce the urge to itch.

#4: First aid supplies. I brought pepto bismol, imodium, ibuprofen, and bandaids. I did use the pepto for preventative measures, but all the rest I like to have as a precaution.
